Hunting Background

I am blessed to have three wonderful children and an incredible wife who has the same passion as I do for hunting and fishing. We love the outdoors, and we spend as much time hunting as we can during the fall. I have hunted everything from Bighorn Sheep to Bobwhite Quail, but my love is watching a beautiful bird dog work as hard as she can to do what God created her to do. I have been bird hunting for over 30 years in Wyoming, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, North and South Dakota. I have introduced the sport of bird hunting to my sons and daughter in the past several years. I have hunted over and owned Labrador Retrievers and Brittany Spaniels, but after hunting over an English Setter, I realized I’d found the breed that fits our style of hunting. This breed has a superior sense of smell, hunts closer than other pointing breeds, and has a coat that can stand up to harsher environmental conditions.

How We Started Our Kennel

We found a puppy (Lucy) out of Mountain View Kennels (Kentucky) from the Llewellin blood line. This female was a true natural hunter. She hunts close, listens well to commands (my son enrolled her in obedience, showmanship and agility classes in 4-H), points, honors other points with little training. She also makes a wonderful family dog that spends most of her time indoors. We then found a male from the same Kentucky kennel which a local from Wheatland had purchased. The male came from a different blood line and we bred him with our female in April 2013. She had eight puppies (six females and two males) in June, 2013.   We decided to keep one of the pups, which we have thoroughly enjoyed, along with one of Lucy’s grandson’s.    Now we are getting ready for our 9th litter between Lucy’s granddaughter Anne and our new male (Woody).  Woody also came from Mountain View Kennels in 2022.   We want to share this breed of dog with other families who enjoy hunting and need a magnificent companion to join them in the field.
